Under licker-in combing segment for controlled fibre tuft combing and heavy impurity arrest before cylinder entry.
The Card Under Licker-in Combing Segment is installed immediately after the mote knife and before fibre transfer to the cylinder. Its primary role is to comb the fibre tufts taken by the licker-in, stabilising fibre flow and preventing uncontrolled carryover into the cylinder zone.
In addition to fibre control, the segment acts as a trapping interface for heavy particles that escape the mote knife, thereby protecting downstream carding elements.
This is a behaviour-defining interface. Geometry, contour accuracy, and setting between the combing segment and licker-in wire directly influence fibre opening uniformity, trash separation efficiency, and carding stability.
Proper execution ensures predictable fibre behaviour before cylinder entry, reducing compensatory load on cylinder wire and flats. Poor execution at this interface often results in uneven tuft combing, increased trash carryover, and gradual instability rather than immediate quality failure.
